Trekstock is a UK based charity that supports young adults in their 20s and 30s living with and beyond cancer. When cancer stops them in their tracks, we’re there to get them moving again – physically, socially and psychologically.
We are the only charity that delivers tailored support to this age group of young adult cancer patients – tackling social isolation, equipping them with information and improving their quality of life through and beyond their treatment.
Research shows that physical activity has both physical and mental health benefits and that’s why we worked with Level 4 Cancer Rehab trainers to design an eight-week group programme that builds week on week. The classes aim to increase participants’ strength, stamina and build their confidence to exercise safely during and after treatment. It also provides a space for them to connect with those who understand what they are going through. These classes are run online via zoom with groups and individual 1:2:1 sessions depending on each individual’s needs and limitations. Since the beginning, we have had over 200 complete the programme and it has transformed many young adults lives.
“The Renew program was great, it gave me purpose to achieve, gave me confidence and strength. Teresa was amazing, perfect at the job and so encouraging.” Young adult who has completed Renew exercise programme, Ginny, 23, breast cancer.
The programme is free and open to any young adult in their 20s or 30s whether they are currently going through treatment, living with Stage 4, in remission or living with the late effects of cancer treatment.
If you are a Level 4 Cancer Rehabilitation trainer, we’d love to hear from you.
